• Welcome to Breathe!

Who we are & What we do

Breathe is an initiative started by Mikayla Wissanji to support endangered species in Kenya.
She has been fundraising in several ways (organizing events, creating and making her own products which she sells). The proceeds have thus far been distributed between Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Save the Elephants and Ghetto Classics.

How it started

It all began in 2016, at the age of 11, after Mikayla visited Ol Pejeta conservancy with her school. She was struck with plight of the Rhinos and how hard the rangers worked to protect them. Not long after, a conservationist called Resson Kantai Duff, who at the time was working with Save the Elephants, gave an inspiring and insightful speech at her school. Mikayla was enchanted with these incredible stories and she had a realization that she too had to help these creatures.

Over the next 2 years, she created and participated in several fundraising events, the most impressive one being organizing a fabulous musical concert. To give the latter a twist, Mikayla invited an incredible and musically talented group of under-privileged children from Korogocho (one of Nairobi’s biggest slums), to perform. This group called Ghetto Classics, has been founded by Elisabeth Njoroge and has transformed the lives of these children.

Mission & Vision

Breathe exists for the sole purpose of saving endangered species. Its purpose is to provide information on the current state of the precious animals that are facing extinction. It aims to make a difference and show the world the value of contributing to save every living being on this planet and to define how important it is for every person to be aware of how fragile our ecosystem is.

The hope is to bring inspiration to both children and adults alike so that they can have a hand in contributing to raise funds, however big or small. This in turn, will help the organisations that work so hard to provide the tools necessary for conservation.

Mikayla’s future plans remain constant. She would love to continue to support these organisations and work hand in hand with them. Her focus till date has been to help the rhinos and elephants. However, her future aspirations may extend to help other endangered species too and to create more awareness about how important it is to contribute to any cause. Our motto: Let’s help these precious beings to continue to Breathe…

  • About the
    Rhinos

Did you know: If you trim a rhinos horn, it grows back just like our fingernails?
This is because it is made from keratin and not ivory!

    The Elephants

Did you know: Even though elephants are big creatures, they get scared of tiny creatures such as bees, ants and mice?
